About
Martin Korssletten, originally from Otta, a small town nestled in Norway's mountainous region, is a contemporary composer/artist based in Oslo.
Often contemplating the mysteries of existence, Korssletten's oeuvre becomes a conduit for an exploration of the unknown and mysticism informed by various eastern philosophers and religions. Specializing in various artistic practices such as music, filmmaking, writing and painting, he seeks to create art that best serves his ideas without compromises.

Currently, he is dedicated to refining his skills as a composer of music while also delving into the art of filmmaking. Now, he is composing a new piece for string orchestra based on his visceral auditory memories of the norwegian folk music from his birthplace – it will be performed in Bø, Telemark during the music festival Norsjø Kammermusikkfest march 2025.
Artistic practice
His work is not about making statements or conveying clear-cut messages; it is about evoking feelings, thoughts, and experiences that resonate on a deeper, almost primal level. Through his meticulous process of intuition and being "one with the material," he seeks to create art where the timing and placement of different elements feel correct to him. This has led his artwork to often have a sacred and solemn atmosphere, sometimes even ritualistic. To aid him in this process, he often refers to the Japanese aesthetic concept of "ma," where the emptiness between elements is just as important as the material itself.
In his artistic practice, themes surrounding the human psyche become his muse, encompassing both the light and dark aspects. His work becomes a testament to the mysteries of existence, where duality and equilibrium are the most important parts.

His artistic process is characterized by his trust in the authenticity of the material created during a phase where he is contemplating a theme and generating work while in this mindset. These sketches serve as the foundation for his artistic vision, capturing the essence of personal perception interwoven with the rendering of a concept.
Educational background
Korssletten's educational background includes studies in composition, music theory, musicology and pedagogy at the Norwegian Academy of Music and Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He has also been teaching art, music and composition in schools, and colleges in Norway, such as Toneheim folk high school, Oslo Metropolitan University and Barratt Due Institute of Music.
